Appliance Repair in Iowa City, Iowa
Our shop is down in Washington, Iowa, and Iowa City is a straight shot north from here. It is about 33 miles up US 218, the Avenue of the Saints, through Riverside, and it runs about 45 minutes door to door. We make that drive most weeks, so Iowa City is regular work for us and not a special trip.
We work all over town. The older streets in the Northside, Goosetown, Longfellow and College Hill, the big houses over in Manville Heights, and the newer subdivisions out east like Windsor Ridge. Coralville, North Liberty, Tiffin and Solon are on the same route, so we cover those and the rest of Johnson County too.
Here is the part that matters to your wallet. Iowa City sits inside our 35 mile radius, so a service call is $110 and that includes the diagnostic. If you go ahead with the repair, $50 of that trip charge is credited back toward the final parts and labor when we return to finish the job. Parts are sold at our cost, so our cost is your cost and we do not mark them up, and our labor runs about half of what most companies charge.
What We Do around Iowa City
Same trade and the same prices whether you own the house or rent it out. This is the work we get called for most in Iowa City and the rest of Johnson County.
Appliance Repairs
Washers, dryers, refrigerators, ranges, dishwashers and freezers. About half the housing in Iowa City is rental, so we are used to getting a machine running again before the next tenant moves in, and we are just as comfortable with the built-in and premium brands in owner-occupied homes.
Plenty of jobs are smaller than you think. A Whirlpool control board pressure switch replacement runs $75, and we will haul off the old appliance while we are there. Call or text (319) 800-8495 and we will tell you what it is likely to cost before we ever drive up.
Neighborhoods and Nearby Towns We Cover
Iowa City is the county seat of Johnson County, about 76,000 people in town and roughly 160,000 in the county, with the University of Iowa sitting right in the middle of it. We are downtown by the Pentacrest and the Old Capitol, along the Ped Mall and the Downtown Historic District, up at the Northside Marketplace on Linn and Market, out in Riverfront Crossings and over on the east side in Towncrest. If your porch looks toward Kinnick Stadium or you are out past Hickory Hill Park, you are in our range.
The housing here is split, and that changes the work. The Northside, Goosetown, College Hill and Longfellow are old, which usually means tight kitchens, non-standard appliance openings and basement laundry on a long vent run. The ranch belts in Morningside-Glendale, Washington Hills and Ty'n Cae came up mid-century, and Windsor Ridge, Galway Hills, the Peninsula and Walnut Ridge are newer with bigger and fancier machines. We show up ready for either one.

Two Kinds of Iowa City Work
Only about 47 percent of homes here are owner-occupied, so roughly half of Iowa City is rental. Landlords, property managers and student rentals call us when a turnover is tight and the washer has to run by Friday. We keep tested used sets on hand for exactly that, we can usually get up there the same week, and we do not pad the bill to do it.
The other half is owner-occupied houses, and with a median value around $286,000 that often means built-in and premium appliances worth repairing instead of replacing. We are EPA certified for sealed-system refrigerator work, so a leak or a bad compressor does not automatically mean a new refrigerator. Either way you get the same $110 service call with the diagnostic included and $50 credited back when we do the repair.
